More Fun In Ohio

The Cornmaze: One fall, Angie's mom came to visit. Boy was she excited when we joined up with our friends John and Anne (the tall ones) and Michael and Evelyn (the not-so-tall ones) for a romp through the corn maze! Several of the area farmers mow down paths through their corn fields in labyrinthine patterns. We let Mike lead for a while, but when Evelyn got a bit testy, we did our best to speed things up. Luckily, the Thomases only lost their youngest, "Doubting", in the confusion.

The Balloon Festival: Every year Marysville hosts a hot air balloon festival. There are balloons of every imaginable size and shape. We've even seen balloons that look like a La-Z-Boy, a Jeep, and a penguin! At night, they tether the balloons to the county fairgrounds midfield, and light them up.

Scuba Diving: You wouldn't think Ohio would be a hotbed of scuba activity, and it isn't. Our choices are limited to Lake Erie (cold and far away), some muddy lakes, and some quarries. This is one of my local quarry dives, where I saw a few crawfish, and other brown fish, but not the big catfish that people usually see at Whitestar. At least I can keep my certification current, and it was cheap to borrow equipment from Graeme. Speaking of water...

The Flood: Okay, we didn't see Noah, but there were a lot of things floating around. Mostly in our basement in our Marysville apartment. During a heavy rainstorm, our drainpipe backed up and deposited 14 inches of sludge beneath our place, soaking just about all of our books. It smelled really, really bad. Honestly not something we liked about Ohio, but definitely memorable. The moral of the story: buy shelves when moving to a new place!
