Even More Fun In Ohio

Dog Sledding: Last winter, someone hatched the great idea of going dogsledding. "Why not", we thought, "go to da U.P. of Michigan in mid-winter, bundle up, and try to remain upright while some speed-junkie dogs try to pull some boards out from under our feet?" Well, Dan, Graeme, Ken, and I had a really great time and only fell off a couple of times. To spend a cold night in the middle of nowhere with a pack of dogs howling at three in the morning makes a person feel very disconnected from the modern world, but also like a member of the pack.

Mountain Biking: I bought a mountain bike in college and it never left the asphalt except to hop onto an occasional sidewalk. After moving someplace much flatter, I learned how much fun I could have been having on that bike! Now I traded that bike in for a lighter, sturdier one and actually started racing. From left to right: Brian Reynolds, Dan Stenger, Eric Daume, and I - the members of Sliced Bread Racing. Team SBR made its debut at the first annual Paint Creek 12-hour race and managed to place 3rd in our age/experience group. We hurt very much afterwards (the smiling faces show that this is the "before" picture). For more pictures, check out the Biking Page (coming soon).

Pumpkin Carving:: This actually started in Ithaca, for no good reason. Then I started getting into it and now I am the proud owner of 1.5 sets of Pumpkin Master carving tools (one broke). At left is Angie's "happy face" entry from last year with rear-projected bats. At right is Charles's "wolf face" pumpkin. If you can't tell, don't worry...lots of people couldn't. But I was still pretty happy with the results.
